Aceste telescoape sunt recomandate pentru utilizarea staționară, fie pe o coloană fixă în grădină sau într-un observator.
Acest lucru este valabil mai ales pentru opticile mari RC și SC, însă și pentru refractoarele apocromate de calitate superioară. Telescoapele sunt livrate ca OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) sau cu o montură mare. Setul de livrare al monturii conține de obicei și un trepied. Chiar dacă instalați montura pe o coloană fixă, ea rămâne totuși flexibilă grație trepiedului.
Clasificarea modelelor în categoriile începători, avansați și observatoare astronomice servește la o mai bună orientare și nu trebuie înțeleasă ca fiind exclusivă.
